Concept Design Solutions

Concept design projects tend to have a small budget and a tight schedule with limited information available, which presents some unique problems for the project.  At Athena Engineering and Design, we have experience of working on a variety of concept projects including Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (F.L.N.G.), enhanced oil recovery and facility product optimisation.

Our ability to quickly and accurately produce 2D drawings and 3D models of engineered design solutions are invaluable when it comes to making a decision for sanctioning a concept project to F.E.E.D. or E.P.C.

F.E.E.D. Solutions

Front End Engineering and Design (F.E.E.D.) projects are normally the starting point for all projects where you tend to be working with information that is regularly changing, meaning the ability to adapt the design is key in ensuring that the project stays on scheduled.

We have found that our experience of carrying projects through from F.E.E.D. to completion allows us to anticipate potential problems early on and by incorporating solutions for these problems into the F.E.E.D. design we can save time and money during all phases of the project.

Detailed Design Solutions

Athena Engineering and Design have worked on detailed design projects for a variety of clients including the major oil companies.  Each client approaches detail design differently and each project presents different problems and opportunities.  Through our experience of working with different clients we have been able to find solutions and take the best practices that each of these problems presents and use these lessons to benefit future projects.

We not only provide detailed design solutions but we also provide our services as an independent review body of detail design solutions that may have been produced by other companies.  This has proven to be very beneficial to clients as it provides an opportunity to discover potential problems early on in the design and can eliminate recurring problems.

Engineering Deliverables

Engineering deliverables are required for fabrication, construction and installation of everything from a simple piping spool to a full petrochemical plant and at Athena Engineering and Design we are able to produce these to client specifications or review third party companies work.  These would include, piping isometrics, plot plans, bill of materials, valve data sheets, special items, material/valve registers, weight control, scopes of work, job specifications, construction work packs and many more.

Piping Integrity Acceptance

Once a project reaches the construction phase, Athena Engineering and Design can be employed to inspect the piping fabrication and installation in order to ensure everything is in accordance with international and client standards and specifications. This helps to eliminate recurring errors and the rework associated with poor fabrication or installation practices.

Maintenance and Repairs

One of the hardest hit areas due to high project costs is maintenance and repair orders.  These smaller jobs tend to be awarded to companies that are more suited for bigger projects and as such have high overheads, which makes these projects more expensive than they need to be.  That is why Athena Engineering and Design with the streamlined approach are a better solution to conduct the engineering and design scopes for maintenance and repair orders.

Decommissioning

It is predicted that the amount of decommissioning projects in the North Sea area will steadily increase for the next 20 years and we are already seeing some large projects being awarded and executed now.  This is another area where our approach could reduce the project costs and we believe that our experience in construction projects can help with the unique challenges that decommissioning projects offer.

Piping Training

Athena Engineering and Design can develop tailored specialised piping training that not only covers piping software use but also piping fundamentals.  This can drastically reduce the rework cost and schedule delays that often occur due to fundamental mistakes being made during the project design.

Independent Consultancy

We also provide an independent review body and consultancy service that can be used for design reviews and construction reviews.  In our experience we have found that by providing a third party review during the design phase of projects we can be impartial and the experienced "fresh eyes" can pick up on potential problems or highlight areas of concern that may otherwise be missed.

Work Procedures and 3D Modelling Guidelines

Work procedures and 3D modelling guidelines are important documents for companies when it comes to controlling the 3D modelling environment and should be among the first documents a new designer to the company should learn.  We are experienced in writing these procedures to match a client's specific needs or to review/update procedures that clients may already have in place.
